What Is Best to Have on the Back Part of a Sofa and Why? Loose Pillows or Attached Cushions?
Category: Goose Down Pillows Answers
We have found a sofa that want to buy. My only concern is if the back cushions are attached, will I be able to fluff them and keep them as even as loose pillows. Any ideas?

Personally, I hate having the loose pillows because one of them got totally out of shape and i can't get it back to the right shape so the whole couch looks terrible even though it is otherwise in good condition. I would definitely recommend getting the one you like. I don't know why anyone would want to fluff and arrange pillows if they don't have to.
I had a couch with detachable cushions ONCE!
I flopped down, splitting 2 of the cushions and hit the wooden bar at the base of the back on the small of my back OUCH!!!! I had the biggest bruise ever.
So, got rid of that thing PRONTO and got a new sofa with attached cushions.
Never been happier!
i'm also in favour of attached... i hate when they split apart and you hit the back, plus they never stay put and you have to rearrange them.
I have loose pillows - believe me, after you use it a few times, the pillows flatten and are mis-shapen. You can never get them to look good. The couch looks soooo old, especially sitting next to the loveseat which hardly ever gets used and still looks new. *sigh*
Usually back cushions that are attached have zippers on the bottom, you might want to check.
Definitely ATTACHED! The loose ones constantly have to be repositioned every time you get up! Hate'em!
The back cushions also known as the inside back should have a zipper along the bottom edge so you can add fiber fill if the cushion becomes flat.
In my opinion the attached pillows are much better. They hold the shape of the couch because they are not shifting around. You can sort of beat at them to fluff, but you won't have to rearrange like loose pillows. I've had both but I won't ever buy a couch with loose pillows again, the attached hold up better and look better.
I'm much in favor of the attached cushions. You can fluff them if you need to, but they never look out of place. Pillow back sofas look pretty in she showroom, but they aren't too practical unless you are putting them in a formal living room that never gets used.
